Contribution by Dr. Floor Blindenbach
Dr. Floor Blindenbach has been one of the contributors to the recently published fourth edition of the PDMA Handbook of Innovation and New Product Development.
Together with Prof. Dr. Jan van den Ende, they wrote chapter 11, titled "Opportunistic New Product Development" - pages 227 - 246. This chapter focuses on what it takes to manage new product development (NPD) when firms innovate infrequently and (re)act on opportunities as they arise, instead of as part of a well-defined growth strategy and portfolio of NPD projects. They labeled the first Opportunistic NPD and the latter Strategic NPD.
